Major David L. Hathorn, age 64, of Rose Ave., Mount Vernon, passed away on Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon. He was born on November 5, 1947 in Zanesville, Ohio to the late Brigadier William and Leota (Brown) Hathorn. David retired in 2008 after 42 years of service with The Salvation Army. He was a soldier of the Mount Vernon Salvation Army where he was a song leader, played trombone in the Salvation Army Band and led a weekly bible study. David was a member of The Salvation Army Men’s Club and currently served as a vice president of the Peniel Holiness Association. David served in the aftermath of 9-11 in New York and was a proud American.
He is survived by his wife Alice (Ball) Hathorn, two daughters, Margaret (Joseph) Henning of New Castle, Pennsylvania, Carolyn (Peter) Callaghan of Edgewater Park, New Jersey, ten grandchildren, three brothers, Robert Hathorn of Denison, Ohio, Richard Hathorn of Atlanta, Georgia, William Hathorn of Nampa, Idaho and a sister, Eva Geddes of Suffern, New York.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 2, 2011 starting at 2 p.m. at The Salvation Army Church, 206 E. Ohio Ave., Mount Vernon, Ohio 43050. Friends may call two hours prior. Major Wesley Geddes, Major Eva Geddes and Major Dean Satterlee will be officiating. The family will observe a private graveside service.
