After his military service, he entered Ohio Northern University, joined the Phi Mu Delta fraternity, and graduated with his law degree in 1952. He and his wife, Doris Hildebrand, whom he married June 7, 1951, returned to Mt. Gilead where he opened his law practice, serving his clients from 1952 until the time of his death. He also founded and was the president of the Whetstone Title Insurance as an agent of the Ohio Bar Title.

In 1957, he was elected to The State House of Representatives, serving a total of 4 terms from 1957-1965. He had also served on the Board of Directors for the People’s Bank and Bank One.

Dale loved playing basketball and softball and was a regular on his church’s softball team until his late 50’s. Until recent years, he would be seen riding his bike, jogging the track, and swimming laps at the local swimming pool. He had a soft spot for his pets and he loved being outside working in his yard during the warmer months and enjoyed watching his birds from the comfort of his easy chair during the winter months.
