Dale E. Chaney
October 05, 1927 ‒ July 05, 2009
Never missing even the slightest detail, Dale Chaney, had a gift for telling a great story about his many interesting life experiences. Each story would always start from the very beginning and he would have your attention until the very last details were recounted.
Dale E. Chaney, age 81, who moved to Marion, Ohio, earlier this year died Sunday evening, July 5, 2009, following an extended illness.
Born on October 5, 1927, in Washington Courthouse, Ohio, the son of the late Burch and Viola (Fisher) Chaney. Dale graduated from Fairveiw White High School, Dayton,Ohio.
Shortly following graduation, Dale enlisted in the U.S. Army and proudly served as a rifleman during the Korean Conflict.
A traveling salesman, Dale worked his way up in the tape and packaging material industry, becoming a regional sales manager for both 3M and Olin Matheson. A tireless worker, his company would move him to locations with declining sales, knowing that Dale would right their problems. Over the course of his career, he lived in Dallas, Cleveland, San Mateo, Atlanta and Charlotte. Dale had a passion for this industry and he was knowledgeable about it and he could recount in detail nearly its entire history.
An avid reader, Dale would read magazines and newspapers for hours, and he would cut out articles of all interests. He was often thoughtful of his family and friends and would share these articles with the persons he knew would be interested in that subject.
With a love for traveling, Dale was ready to go any where at any time. Having the gift of gab, he truly loved getting to know each person he would encounter on his travels and it took only minutes before he would have a new friend.
Having thirty two sweet tooths, Dale loved to eat his sweet treats! He often cleaned out his entire refrigerator devouring anything in his way.
Dale will be dearly missed by his three children: Mark (Susan) Chaney of Marion, and their children: Amanda (Jeremy) Jolliff, Danielle (Rex) Wheeler, George (Pam) Spencer, and Shawn (Kim) Leach; Craig (Dee) Chaney of Boise, Louisiana, and their children: Taylor and Brook Chaney; and Todd (Kim Dempsey) Chaney of Columbus; four great grandchildren: Misty, Jordan, Devon and McKenna; two great great grandchildren: Autumn and Neveah; two nephews; and his former wife, Connie Chaney of Columbus, Ohio.
In addition his parents, Dale was preceded in death by his second wife, Annabelle Chaney on May 30, 2008; and by his sister, Janet Pummel.
The Chaney family will celebrate Dale’s life privately with Pastor Keith Bond officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Marion County United Veterans Council.
