Charlene Dement, age 86, of Mount Vernon, died Wednesday May 29, 2002 at the Doctors Hospital West in Columbus. Charlene was born September 21, 1915 at Willowood in Lawrence county to John and Margaret (Heilrich) Hockenberry and moved to Knox county in 1950. She was a homemaker and had worked at the Northside Manor Nursing Home in Mount Vernon. Charlene had been active with the Station Break Senior Citizens Center in Mount Vernon.
Surviving are two sons Robert Dement of Mansfield and James Dement of Mount Vernon, five daughters Carol (Otis) Gay and Alice (Robert) Lengl both of Saint Petersburg, Florida, Naola (John) Paques of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Barbara (Gary) Miller of Bellville and Bonnie (Donald) Phillips of Mount Vernon; 16 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 3 step great grandchildren; a great great granddaughter; and her sister Ruth Swann of Orlando, Florida. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Chester Irvin Dement in 1992 and 7 brothers and sisters.
Friends may call Thursday May 30 from 6 to 8 PM at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home in Mount Vernon where funeral services will be Friday at 1 PM with Rev. Joe Blevins officiating. Burial will follow in North Liberty Cemetery.
