Carroll Yarnell

Carroll F. Yarnell Jr., age 83 of Lewis Center, passed away unexpectedly Saturday morning, February 22, 2014 at Riverside Hospital.

Born January 29, 1931on the Yarnell farmstead in Westerville, he was the son of the late Carroll F. and Marguerite (McLeod) Yarnell Sr. A 1949 graduate of Westerville High School, where he was active in FFA.

A lifelong farmer, he also hauled milk for many years and grain for the Skinner’s and McNamara Trucking. For 10 years he also worked and supervised the Orange Township Maintenance Department.

Carroll was a selfless volunteer and was recognized as a thousand-hour volunteer, delivering for Meals on Wheels to Delaware County seniors and many times included treats for their canine companions. He was a member of the Delaware County Farm Bureau and Ohio State Milk Haulers, as well as the Council for Older Adults.

He enjoyed bowling and roller skating in his younger years. He treasured time spent outdoors, tending to his yard or hauling grain at harvest. Hardworking and honest, he was a man of deep integrity. Never a stranger met, he possessed a charm second to none. Always helpful, he was dedicated to every task, chore, or need. He will be remembered for his generous heart and warm smile.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife and partner in life for 60 years: Luella (Martin) they did it all together side by side, children Elmer G. (Gena) Yarnell, Becky A.(Richard) Creighton, Kenneth P. Yarnell (Peg Lowry), daughter-in-law Pamela, grandchildren Joseph (Carla) Yarnell, Daniel (Tracy) Yarnell, Matt (Meghan) Yarnell, Carroll (Sarah) Creighton, Zachary (Kristen) Creighton, Katie (Tim) Yarnell DeSloover, Alex Yarnell, Justin (Stacy) Yarnell, Brandon Yarnell, Taryn Yarnell, several great-grandchildren, and countless friends.

He was also preceded in death by son Alan C. Yarnell in 1998 and brother Gerald Yarnell in 2004.

Friends may call 3-7 p.m. Tuesday at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, SR’s 3 at 61, Sunbury, where services will be held 10:30 am Wednesday with Rev. Robert Lust officiating. Burial will follow in Africa Cemetery,
