Carroll Dale Stith, age 82 of Delaware passed at his home early Sunday morning, October 6, 2002.

He was born on July 27, 1920 in Sunbury to the late Pearlee W. & Lurrell M. (Barton) Stith. Graduate of Sunbury High School Class of 1938. He served 38 years in the US Army both on active and reserve duty including Foreign Service in England, France and the Philippines and was awarded the Army Commendation Medal in 1980.

From 1964 until 1978 he was the superintendent of the Delaware County Home, while there he received from the Delaware Area Chamber of Commerce the “Honor Citizen” award, the “Community Service Award” from the Delaware Rotary Club and the “Resolution of Appreciation” award from the County Board of Commissioners.

He served two consecutive terms on the Buckeye Valley School Board and in 1975 was elected President of the board. An active and dedicated member of the Delaware Community he was honored as “Senior Citizen of the Year” and was chosen for a term to be the President of the Senior Citizens of Delaware County as well as President of the Council for Older Adults.

Carroll was a member of the Reserve Officers Association of the United States, American Legion Post #115, Delaware Elks, Knights of Phthyias, a 32nd Degree Mason, member of Sparrow Lodge # 400 F & AM, Scottish Rite Valley of Columbus and Delaware County Shrine Club. He traveled extensively with the US Army Reserves.

Survived by his wife of 51 years: Rosemary (Mitchell), Son: Kevin & Jamie Stith of Delaware Daughter: Lurrel & Tom Ulery of Delaware, 4 Grandchildren: Tara, Luke, Whitney, Courtney.

In addition to his parents he is also preceded in death by 2 sons: Jeffrey, Denny, and Sister: Lela Wirthman.

He will be remembered for the love of his family and friends and for his dedicated service and loyalty to his country and to the Delaware Community.

Friends may call Tuesday 5-8 p.m. at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, 75 W. William St., DELAWARE. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, SR 3 at 61, SUNBURY, Pastor Larry Griffin officiating. Interment Sunbury Memorial Park.
