Carolyn Sue Koogle Haskins
MT. GILEAD: Carolyn Sue Koogle Haskins, age 75, of Candlewood Lake, Mt. Gilead passed away Sunday, September 13, 2009 in Riverside Methodist Hospital.
Carolyn was born January 18, 1934 in Portsmouth to Ira and Aston (Portis) Wallace, and was graduated from Mansfield Senior High School in 1951. Following high school Carolyn attended Mansfield General Hospital School of Nursing where she graduated in 1954.
On April 16, 1972 she married The Rev. Robert Haskins with whom she celebrated 37 years of marriage.
Carolyn worked as an RN at several local physicians offices and also as a home health nurse in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, where she and her husband lived for some time during his ministerial career. She had the blessed gift of a “natural nurse” which was only enhanced by her genuine care and compassion for others.
However, her most important role was that of mother to her children. While keeping a tight schedule at work, she also managed to serve as both president and vice president of two mother’s clubs.
Returning to the Mansfield area in 2001 Carolyn was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ. She had also been a member of Mayflower Congregational Church.
As a young woman she was interested in drag racing, and competed in powder puff races. She was also a talented bowler and served as president of her league. More recently, Carolyn enjoyed collecting antiques. Many days she and Bob spent their “day out” at antique fairs and dealerships searching for the unusual treasure.
A huge Ohio State fan, nothing stood between Carolyn and the television on OSU Football game day! Literally half her closet was stuffed with Ohio State University apparel, and the theme found it’s way into her decorating as well.
Carolyn leaves a legacy of numerous lifelong friendships.
In addition to her husband The Rev. Robert Haskins of Candlewood Lake, Mt. Gilead, Carolyn is survived by a son and daughter-in-law Kevin and Lucy Koogle of Kent, daughter and son-in-law Robyne and Norman Lutz of Arlington, Texas, and a son and daughter-in-law Robert and Cindy Haskins of Ft. Worth, Texas; six grandchildren Samuel Aston and Caroline Anne Koogle, Darren Wayne Koogle, Courtney Allison Lutz, Nikole Leigh Kirkpatrick, and Robert Cuyler Haskins; two great grandchildren Allison Nikole, and Dylan Michael Kirkpatrick.
She was preceded in death by her first husband Carl Wesley Koogle in 1965, a daughter Kimberly Koogle in 2004, an infant great granddaughter Katlyn Marie Kirkpatrick, and a brother Steven Wallace.
A celebration of Carolyn Sue Haskin’s Life will be held at the family residence at a later date. The Haskins family chose the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions to MedCentral College of Nursing Alumni Scholarship Fund may be made through the funeral home.
