Carl R. “Shorty” Dailey

Carl R. “Shorty” Dailey, age 81, of State Route 95, Chesterville, Ohio passed away, Saturday morning, June 3, 2006 at the Morrow County Hospital, Mount Gilead. Carl was born on December 16, 1924 in Sparta, son of the late Raymond S. and Daisy Bell (Stump) Dailey.
Carl had worked in the construction business and was an Army surplus seller in the Chesterville area. Carl served his country in the United States Navy during WWII as a Seaman 1st Class serving on the USS Missouri during the Pearl Harbor bombing and was a witness to the official surrender of the Japanese to General Douglas MacArthur in Tokyo Bay. He loved to go fishing and trap.
Carl is survived by his loving wife, Della (Barton) Dailey, whom he married on August 30, 1952; brothers, Ralph (Marilyn) Dailey of Mount Gilead, and Earnest (Arlene) Dailey of Corpus Christi, Texas; a sister, Hazel (Jack) Cornish of Mansfield; a sister-in-law, Lorena Dailey of Port Charlotte, Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Carl was preceded in death by two brothers, Cecil J. Dailey and Roy D. Dailey; and a sister, Lucille Jarvis.
Friends will be received at the Snyder Funeral Home, 33 East College St. in Fredericktown, Ohio from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 6, 2006. A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 7, 2006 in the Beverly Cemetery on State Route 339 in Beverly, Ohio.
