Calvin L. Compeau

October 28, 1939 ‒ October 28, 2016

Mount Gilead, Ohio

Calvin L. Compeau, age 77, of Mount Gilead, passed away at his home, Friday morning, October 28, 2016.

On October 28, 1939, Calvin was born at home in Livonia, MI, the son of the late Floyd Joseph and June Blossom (Goodhue) Compeau.  He left school following 8th grade so he could help his family make ends meet.

Calvin worked for Ford Motor Company for many years.   Throughout his life, he was a Ford mechanic in many places across the United States.  Following retirement, he worked for Hardee’s in TN.

Cars were Calvin’s true passion.  He loved working on and restoring old cars, going to car shows, and building model cars.

He enjoyed watching Westerns on TV, especially John Wayne, or any movies that had Jennifer Aniston or Sandra Bullock in them.

Calvin was quite the flirt and a bit of a butt man.  His favorite line was “Are you from Texas? Cause you are so pretty.”  He had a jokester’s sense of humor and liked making people feel good.

Calvin loved being with his family.  He was like a little kid during the holidays and large family gatherings.  He was especially proud of his grandson, Dakoda Shipley, who recently joined the United States Marine Corps.

He had a good heart for animals also, particularly his dog, Maggie, that he had for 18 years after finding her tied up with a shoe string at a local Wal-Mart.

Calvin will be dearly missed by his four children: Jeanette Lambert of VA, Diana (Kevin) Shipley of Mount Gilead, Christopher (Rick Hebebrand) Compeau of Columbus, Lynn (Kim) Rodrigues of TN; 12 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; a brother, Dennis of CO; and three sisters: Sharon of MI, Melvina of UT, and Denise of FL.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two children: James Allen and Melody Ann Compeau; a sister, Georgina; a brother, Lonnie; and his former wife and mother of his children, Loraine.

Calvin’s family will greet friends from 4 – 7 p.m. on Tuesday, November 1, 2016, at the Snyder Funeral Home, Craven Chapel, 67 N. Main St., Mount Gilead.

Memorial contributions in Calvin’s honor may be made to the Humane Society of Morrow Co., P.O. Box 298, Mount Gilead, OH 43338.
