Bruce D. Eastep

February 24, 1951 ‒ September 23, 2019

Mount Gilead, Ohio

Bruce D. Eastep, age 68, of Mount Gilead, passed away at his home on Monday, September 23, 2019.

On February 24, 1951, Bruce was born in Mount Vernon, Ohio, one of 10 children of the late Samuel E. and Marie C. (Hodge) Eastep.  He graduated from Cardington-Lincoln High School in the Class of 1970.  He furthered his education, receiving his Associate’s Degree from The Ohio State University.

Over the years, Bruce worked numerous jobs including J.G. Clark Box Factory, Grohe Funeral Home, and then helped with activities for Morning View Care Center and Bennington Glen.  He was a people person, and loved being around, talking with and helping others.

A man of faith, Bruce was a long time and former member of the Saint Paul Lutheran Church in Cardington.

Music was a true love in Bruce’s life, especially country and bluegrass.  George Jones was his favorite singer.  He enjoyed playing the guitar and in his younger years played in a country and western band.  On several occasions he played for the residents of Bennington Glen.

To say Bruce was a meticulous man would be an understatement.  Everything in his home was always clean and in its place.  When he finished mowing the lawn he cleaned the mower until it looked brand new and would wash his cars just to wash them.

Bruce enjoyed tinkering around the house, refinishing furniture, doing crossword puzzles and watching The Three Stooges.

Bruce’s family meant the world to him.  He cherished spending time with his daughters and grandchildren.  He enjoyed get-togethers and cookouts with family and friends.  He was usually the goofy one of the bunch.

Bruce will be dearly missed by his two daughters: Sarina (John) Atwell of Cardington, Stephannie (Chris) Stancil of Summerville, SC; three grandchildren: Brandon Atwell of Cardington, Clayton and Jace Stancil of Summerville, SC; his longtime companion, Sondra Thompson of Johnsville;  his first wife and mother of his daughters, Deborah Treisch of Walnut Creek; and his beloved Chihuahua, Sissy.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five sisters: Joanne Eastep, Barbara Seitz, Sue Seitz, Brenda Davis, and Dixie Inglis; and four brothers: James, Terrence, Samuel “Benny,” and Hollis Eastep.

Bruce’s family will greet friends from 5 – 7 p.m. on Wednesday, October 2, 2019, at the Snyder Funeral Homes, Craven Chapel, 67 N. Main St., Mount Gilead.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Morrow County Dog Shelter, 80 N. Walnut St., Suite A, Mount Gilead, OH 43338.
