Brian Simms

September 27, 1979 ‒ December 13, 2018

Ontario, Ohio

ONTARIO: Brian Simms, age 39, unexpectedly passed away Thursday, December 13, 2018, in the Cleveland Clinic following surgery complications.

He was born September 27, 1979, in Columbus, Ohio to parents Michael and Shirley (Hedrick) Simms. He graduated from Mifflin High School with the class of 1997. A beautiful young lady named Jennifer Hardin caught his eye and the pair married on May 16, 2009.

Brian worked as a carpet technician with My Floors in Galion for 7 months. He previously worked at Toys “R” Us for over 20 years and loved his work family there.

By far, Brian’s favorite thing to do was read. His favorite genre was fantasy and he especially liked Harry Potter—so much so, in fact, that he was a founding member of the Quidditch team in Ohio. In the non-wizarding world, Quidditch is played like a cross between dodgeball and Ultimate Frisbee, and Brian helped design it. He enjoyed going to Renaissance Faires and had a quite impressive sword collection.

Brian was also an OSU football fan and liked to build things with wood, but his true passion was his family. He absolutely loved spending time with his kids and grandkids who affectionately called him “Papaw”. His family will especially miss his delicious chili dog sauce, and BBQ chicken. He will be remembered as a funny, loving, caring, and hardworking man who was always willing to help someone in need. Brian was an amazing dad and husband and will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his loving wife of nine years Jennifer Simms of Ontario; five children Chris Hardin (Marissa Carpenter) of Mansfield, Connor Simms of Columbus, Owen Simms of Columbus, Emily Simms of Ontario, and Jacob Simms of Ontario; two adorable grandchildren Harvey Hardin and Lucy Hardin; his brother Mike (Dawn) Simms of Columbus; his mother Shirley Sutphin of Columbus; sisters-in-law Patti (Terry) Drawdy of Columbus and Amanda McGinnis of Mansfield; and his best friend who was like a brother Mike Peters of Columbus.

Brian was preceded in death by his father Michael Simms.

His family will receive friends Wednesday, December 19, 2018, from 4 to 8 pm in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home. A funeral service honoring Brian’s life will be held 2 pm Thursday, December 20, 2018, where Celebrant Dave Roberts will speak. Contributions in his memory to benefit his family may be made to Snyder Funeral Home and brought to his services or sent to: PO Box 3085 Mansfield OH 44904.

  • I can remember what seems like a lifetime ago bringing in the 90’s living with aunt Shirley for a moment, Brian was 12 years old, he was so good in school, very well Mannered and always had a smile on his face. I haven’t seen him since his teenage years when he came to Texas, will never forget the cherished memories. He is the epitome of Righteous choices, true moral conduct and family man. This is very hard to accept and understand.
