March 31, 1948 ‒ July 24, 2008
Bill Wenger, 60 of Fredericktown died unexpectedly Thursday morning July 24, 2008 at the Morrow County Hospital.
He was born on March 31, 1948 in Carlisle, Pennsylvania the son of Eldon C. Wenger of Fredericktown and the late Alma L. (Lehman) Wenger.
Bill has been a member of the Morrow County Community since he and his family moved here from Pennsylvania when he was a small boy.
He was a member of the Northmor class of 1966 and the Bryn Zion Baptist Church.
On July 13, 1968 Bill married his loving wife Marcia J. Augenstein at the Gilead Mennonite Church; a friendship and union which just entered its 40th year.
Bill most recently was employed by Santech Landfill in Crawford County as a heavy equipment operator. Prior to that he had been employed by Excavating Unlimited for 15 years, also as a heavy equipment operator.
While he held various jobs throughout his life, Bill’s passion was farming. He originally was a dairy farmer, but has had sheep and goats for the past 20 years.
Bill was a tractor fanatic and had several antique models stored on his farm and at his dad’s. While it was difficult to pick his favorite he was particularly fond of Oliver tractors.
Some folks collect antiques and have no idea of the inner workings, not Bill, he not only worked on his tractors, but those of his friends and neighbors. Bill could fix anything and he passed that knowledge on to his son Matt.
He also had an extensive collection of toy farm equipment. His home had two rooms lined with his “toys”.
As a man, Bill’s number one priority was his family and his grandchildren held a special place in his heart. He was very stubborn, yet very honest and always wanted business to be done in a fair and truthful manner.
In addition to his wife and father, he will be sadly missed by his four children Julie (Scott) Gompf of Edison, Christie (Rick) Bago and Matt (Angie) Wenger of Fredericktown, and Laura (David) Swihart of Mount Gilead; 12 grandchildren Ashley (Dusty), Brooke (Ryan), Paxton, Bailey, Austin, Trevour, Braden, Madison, Luke, Chase, Holly, and Reagan; two great grandchildren Bryce and Shelby; four brothers Keith of Bellville, Les (Patsy) of Galion, Alan (Thresa) of Shauck, and Dale (Wendy) of Bellville; Four sisters Karen (Gary) Pfile of Freeport, Illinois, Beth (Dean) Jagger and Dotty (Mike) Goff of Mount Gilead, and Luann (John) Watts of Edison; special aunt Fern Wenger of Mount Vernon; his mother-in-law Melba Phillips of Salem, Oregon; and many nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
In addition to his mother he was preceded in death by a sister in infancy Phyllis Wenger and his father-in-law Roger Augenstein.
