Betty D Wenninger, 86, of Galion, died Thursday, Oct. 7, 2010 at Galion Community Hospital, after an extended illness.

Born June 13, 1924 in Ashland, she was the daughter of the late Carl Gongwer and Mabel Raudabaugh Gongwer and step-daughter of the late Maxine Gongwer. She is survived by her husband of 62 years Alvin “Al” Wenninger, whom she married June 26, 1948.

Betty was a graduate of Ashland High School in 1942 and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Galion where she was a member of the Sacristans and served as an officer of three church groups. She was also a member of TWIG 2 Galion Community Hospital Auxiliary, Galion Golden Age Club and the Mansfield Pandora Dance Club. She loved to travel, enjoyed flowers, working in her flower garden and arranging flowers. Betty previously worked at the Shelby Depot, Mansfield Tire, Attorney Edward Jones, Attorneys Moulton, Ricksecker and Wagner and volunteered at the Galion Community Center-YMCA.

She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and John Sandberg of Cincinnati, Suzanne and Kenneth Gregg of Bath, Maine and Patricia and Scott Brown of Canton, Ga. and one granddaughter, Ashley Gregg of Bath, Maine.

Friends may call from 2 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 10, 2010 at Richardson-Davis Funeral Home where a Vigil Service will be held at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, with Deacon Greg Kirk officiating. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 11, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Galion with Father Robert Haas, celebrant. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
