Bertha Marguaretta Milligan, age 90, passed away on Sunday, January 6, 2008 in Willow Brook Christian Village, Delaware, Ohio.
She passed into heaven surrounded by four generations of her family. She was born on April 3, 1917 in Morrow County to Vernon and Sarah (Mooney) Powell. She graduated from Marengo High School in 1934, where she was a member of the band and basketball team. She married Walter William (Mike) Milligan on August 15, 1936. She moved from Centerburg to Sunbury in 1959, and to Willow Brook Christian Village in Delaware in 1994. She was a long-time member of the Sunbury United Methodist Church, the Ruth Circle and the Progress Club. She retired with 25 years of service from the Nestle Company in 1979.
She is survived by her son- Nelson Milligan (Mary Lou); her daughter- Linda Jewell (Jon, Ph.D.); grandchildren- Anna Waller (John), Captain Timothy Jewell (Pamela), Andrew Milligan (Deyan, M.D.), William Milligan (Sharon), Katharine DeMieri (Paul, M.D.), Kerry MacKenzie,Esq. and Christopher Jewell, M.D. (Kristin); nineteen great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; also by numerous special nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Milligan, after 51 years of marriage; and her brother- W. Leland Powell.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 24, 2008, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 12:00 noon, in the Sunbury United Methodist Church, 100 West Cherry Street, Sunbury, with the Rev. Brian Smith, pastor, officiating.
