April 08, 1994 ‒ July 17, 2015

Sunbury, Ohio

Austin Brooks Vertrees, 21, of Sunbury Ohio, passed away unexpectedly on July 17, 2015 at Grady Memorial Hospital.

Austin was born on April 8, 1994, in Delaware, Ohio.  He was a 2012 graduate of Big Walnut High School and worked as a skilled laborer in the construction field.

He is survived by his loving parents and brother Tami & Brian Lee of Sunbury, his little brother Colton, and Mike and Jeri J Vertrees of Bucyrus.  He also leaves his grandparents Darrell and Phyllis Adkins of Galena, Brenda and Bob Lee of Sunbury, and many family members and close friends whom he treasured.

Austin is preceded in death by his aunt Amanda Lynn “Mandy” Adkins; paternal grandparents Richard and Martha Vertrees, and Maxine Roberts; maternal great-grandparents Opal and Beecher Adkins, and Raymond and Tina Doane.

Austin loved to fish, hunt, and anything that involved being outdoors.  He loved bluegrass music and he found such joy each year at the MACC the family bluegrass festival in honor of his Aunt Mandy, playing baseball, spending time with his family and friends, and had a smile that lit up the room.

Calling hours will be held Monday from 5-8 p.m. at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, SR 3 at 61, Sunbury, where services will be held Tuesday 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Jerry Funston officiating. Interment will follow in the Cheshire Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like to request donations be sent to the charity that is nearest to their hearts, Musicians Against Childhood Cancer (all donations go to St Jude Research Hospital), 1434 S 3Bs and K Rd, Galena OH  43021
