Ashtan William Russell

October 07, 2002 ‒ February 03, 2019

Bellville, Ohio

Ashtan William Russell, age 16, of Bellville, passed away Sunday, February 3, 2019 at Grant Medical Center following injuries sustained in a work accident.

On October 7, 2002, Ashtan was born in Galion, Ohio, a son of Ami R. (George) Russell and Shane T. Russell.  He was currently a sophomore at Northmor High School, where he was a member of the FFA.

Growing up, Ashtan enjoyed playing baseball and basketball.  He liked to run, a lot, play with his Hot Wheels cars in the dirt and ride bikes with his brother.  He also spent a lot of time baking with his mom.

For the past year Ashtan enjoyed his time working for Algire Chicken Farm in Fredericktown.  He had found his calling and knew what he wanted to do with his life.

Ashtan loved being outdoors taking care of and riding his horses, mushroom hunting, fishing, camping and swimming.  He and his brother liked to spend time together destroying stuff and riding four-wheelers.  When he wasn’t outdoors, he would spend hours on his Farm Simulator on Xbox or watching YouTube videos.

Most of the time, Ashtan was a quiet and shy young man.  He always put a smile on everyone’s face and could crack some great jokes.  He was the best lip-syncer you ever saw.

Ashtan was so excited to become an uncle this coming July. He told his brother he would babysit for him but he wasn’t changing diapers. He said he was going to be the coolest uncle ever.

Ashtan will be dearly missed by his mom, Ami (Jeremy Kaufman) Russell of Bellville; his father, Shane (Ashley) Russell of Fredericktown; his brother, Tristan (Alexis Frazier) Russell of Bellville; his girlfriend, Michaela Wilson of Johnsville; his grandparents: Todd Russell of Bellville, Vivian(Dave) Troyer of Bellville, Bob (Luann) George of Mount Gilead, Rhonda Garris(Richard) of Lexington; aunts and uncles: Samantha (Roman) Troyer of Bellville, Holly Russell of Mansfield, Wendi (Jack) Conners of Mount Gilead, Alan (Jamie) George of Lexington, Adam (Mary Lee) George of Lexington;  his German Shepherd, Rugar; and numerous cousins.

Ashtan’s family will greet friends from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, February 7, 2019, at the Snyder Funeral Homes, Craven Chapel, 67 N. Main St., Mount Gilead.  Services to honor and celebrate his life will be held there at 11:00 a.m. on Friday with Pastor Donnie Akers officiating.  Burial will follow in Bryn Zion Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Snyder Funeral Homes to assist the family with funeral expenses.

  • I feel so fortunate to have had Ashtan in my life for the short time that I did. I may not have been a mother figure, but the love that I have for him is true. I couldn’t have asked for anyone better to enter my life in the way that he did. Ashtan, you will forever be with us. We love and miss you endlessly.

  • Saying I’m sorry for your loss just doesn’t express my sorrow. NO parent should ever have to bury a child!!!! Words just don’t come to me in any way to help bring comfort to any of the family. I remember Ashtan running amouk when Ami & I would get together for Tristan & Jesse when they were little. He was such a sweet, kind soul & also an ornery little brother. From what I know as he got older, Ashtan left an impact on everyone he knew & met. As parents, what a proud moment! His life touched so many other lives & for that, he will always carry on!

  • I’m so sorry for your loss my heart goes out to all of you! I may not of known him but i do know his dad shane and his aunt Samantha I cannot imagine the pain all I can do is pray God brings you comfort and peace I’m praying for all of the family my heart goes out may God bless you all and bring comfort to you.

  • I was so very sorry to hear of Ashtan’s death. I remember him as a smart, quick-witted second grader at Johnsville School. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you at this time.

  • So sorry for your loss. May he rest in peace. I pray your family also finds peace in the coming days & weeks ahead. God bless you.

  • My thoughts and prayers are with the family.
May God wraps His loving arms around you and comfort you during this difficult time.

  • I am so happy that I got to call you my nephew Ashtan you was so full of and hunter were cousins but best friends as well I will always remember your beautiful smile and every time I’d ask you a question you’d shrug them shoulders up and say I don’t know we’d always joke around about it.i had so many fun times with you horseback riding and was a joy to be around.prayers for your mom and dad And everyone else that loves you so much you touched alot of people’s hearts aunt Samantha loves you so much kid one day we will ride again kid💚💚💚

  • Ashton was a special man, he was a man you don’t meet everyday anymore. He was a man with a huge work ethic and strong urge to keep my daughter happy. He truly was the perfect boyfriend you want your daughter to meet! I wasn’t ready to hand her over yet, but he gave me a since of security and I knew she was safe when she was with him. He had a special understanding when he dealt with her. He was always there! He never let her down. He is going to be deeply missed. My prayers are with the family! His mother could not have molded a better man! I love you Ashton!

  • We are so very sorry for your great loss. We hope that one you find peace and comfort in his memories.

  • Ashtan was like my older brother. He was always there for me when I needed someone. I remember in 9th grade we would always sit together at lunch and we always had each others backs. I will never forget him and he will always be in my heart, Ashtan was the most excepting kid I’ve ever met and that’s hard to come by in high school. I am so thankful for the time I got to know Ashtan. Rest in peace my big brother.
