Arthur “Art” Ellison

Arthur “Art” Ellison of Delaware died Monday, August 16, 2004 at Wintersong Nursing Home, bringing to close a life of 79 beautiful memorable years.
He was born on September 1, 1924 in Waynesboro, Georgia to the late Mary Jane and Wade Ellison. Art moved to Delaware in 1941 from Walterboro, SC. He retired from Ohio Wesleyan University after working 34 years as a baker and housekeeper.
Art was an avid sport fan, supporting the Cleveland Browns, Cincinnati Reds, and The Ohio State Buckeyes. He was a loyal friend to many and attended the Second Baptist Church.
Preceded in death by his wife Erma Mendenhall in 1990; 3 Brothers Wade, David, Willie Ellison; Sisters Daisey Ellison and Gertrude Lawerey.
Survived by Sons James “Jimmy” (Gail) Mendenhall of Chicago, IL, Timothy “Tim” (Kristy) Mendenhall of Delaware; Grandchildren Jay Nicholas, Holly Marie, Taylor Leigh Mendenhall; Sister Willie Mae Flournoy of Delaware, numerous nieces and nephews, and a very Special family friend Robert Almstead of Marengo.
Friends may call Thursday 6-8 p.m. at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, 75 W. William St., Delaware and 1 hour prior to the funeral services to be held Friday 1:00 p.m. at Second Baptist Church, 55 Ross St., Delaware, with Pastor Lamont Coates officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, Delaware.
