MANSFIELD: Alvin Eugene Rinehart passed away, Sunday, March 25, 2018 in his home surrounded by his family. He was 84.

He was born November 24, 1933 in Morrow County to parents Henry W. & Viola M. (Marshall) Rinehart. After he was graduated from Lexington High School with the class of 1951, he proudly served his country by joining the US Navy while attending The Ohio State University before being called back to duty.

A beautiful young lady named Margaret Evelyn Morrison caught his eye and the pair soon married on October 29, 1955. They spent 57 wonderful years together until she passed in 2012.

Alvin worked at, Kokosing as a heavy equipment operator and a mechanic for many years before retiring in 1995.

He was a member of the Eagles #630 in Galion, VFW #5101, American Legion #535, Moose #303 in Galion, Am Vets #1979, Am Vets #26, Elks in Lexington, and the Galion Owl’s.

In spare time, he took pleasure in being outdoors. From his tractors to showing horses to mushroom hunts to turkey shoots and deer hunts he enjoyed working with his hands. One of his favorite pastime was gardening. The family joke was when he would plant something in his garden, he couldn’t just plant a row, he would have to plant half an acre.

He is survived by sons Rex Frye (Andrea Sturtz) of Circleville, and James (Laura) Rinehart of Mansfield; daughter Saundra Rinehart of Galion; grandchildren Heather Lybarger, Casandra Shisler, Dustin Rinehart, Drew Shisler and Sarah Rinehart; 6 great-grandchildren; sister Marilyn Sipes; brothers Duane Rinehart and Danny (Linda) Rinehart.

  • Rex, Jim, and Saundra,
We are saddened to hear the news of Uncle Alvin’s death. Wish that we could be there with you. That’s one of the drawbacks to living in Florida, it’s too great a distance from Ohio.
Praying for God’s loving arms to surround you and uphold you in the weeks and months ahead. May God give you comfort when you feel lonely and strength when you feel weak.
We send our love and hugs to you and all your family.

  • Sonnie, I am so sorry to hear of your dad’s passing. Sorry didn’t even know he has been sick. Our thoughts and pr ayers are with all of you at this difficult time. He can now be with Maggie once again 🙂

  • Going to miss you Uncle Al… thanks for the turnips, horseradish, and walnuts. You always had the biggest heart. Give Aunt Margaret a hug from me.
