MANSFIELD: Zola Jones, age 80, formerly of Straub Road, Mansfield, died Sunday evening October 21, 2001 in Winchester Terrace Nursing Center following a long illness.
Now alive with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Zola was born June 6, 1921 in Akron to Clyde and Daisy (Hern) Jones, and attended the University of Akron. She earned her Bachelors of Library Science from Bob Jones University, and then her Masters degree in Library Science from Western Reserve University in Cleveland.
Zola began her career in the University of Akron Library and then the Missouri State Library in Jefferson City, MO. She then worked 22 years as a civilian employee of the US Department of the Army. She worked as head librarian with the Carlisle Army War College in Carlisle, PA. Her overseas duties took her to Turkey, Greece, and Germany, as well as locations across the US, including Fort Bragg, before retiring in 1976.
Following her retirement from the Army, she worked in the Georgia State Library in Valdosta, GA.
Living in Mansfield since 1988, Zola attended Southwood Baptist Church.
She is survived by a brother and sister-in-law Clyde & Lucille Jones of Wooster; a sister Rita Jones of Mount Vernon; a friend in Christ Emily Miller of Mansfield; a niece and a nephew.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday October 24, 2001 at 11 am in Mansfield Memorial Park. Mr. Don Hershner will officiate. The Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home is in charge of funeral arrangements.
