Zettie Lou West

MANSFIELD: Zettie Lou West, 69, formerly of Plum Place, Mansfield, died Tuesday, June 28, 2005 in Winchester Terrace following a yearlong illness.

She was born September 20, 1935 in Fairmont, West Virginia to Arlie and Icy Caroline (Gibson) Hall, and was graduated from Fairmont High School. She attended Central Florida Community College in Ocala, Florida, as well as The Ohio State University.

Zettie was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War, serving as a supply clerk at F.E. Warren Air Base in Cheyenne, Wyoming.

A homemaker, Zettie had worked with KinderCare in Las Vegas and Tarpon Springs, Florida, and returned to Mansfield two years ago, and worked in the kitchen of the 179th Air Lift Wing, and also worked part-time at the Park Avenue West Cleaners & Coin-Op Laundry.

An avid reader, Zettie enjoyed sewing clothes for her children and crocheting projects. She’d dote on her four cats, and tear herself from them only for gambling junkets.

She is survived by her loving husband of 49 years Robert J. West; their children Richard and Jackie West, Roberta West, Dennis and Shellie West, Lu Ann Howard, Vickie West and Katherine West all of Mansfield, and Tracey Whiting of Clearwater, Florida; twelve grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law Betty and John Varner of New Philadelphia; and a brother and sister-in-law David and Rose Hall of Fairmont, West Virginia.

She was preceded in death by a sister Leona McVicker, two brothers Dorsey Hall and Gene Hall; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Friday, July 1, 2005 from 11 am until 1 pm in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 1 pm. Chaplain Bohley of the 179th Air Lift Wing will officiate. Military honors will be provided by the 179th Air Lift Wing. Interment will be in Mansfield Cemetery.
