Woodrow “Woody” Bailey, 83, of State Route 19, Mt. Gilead died Sunday, September 30, 2001 in Woodside Village.
He was born in Cob Hill, Kentucky on Sept. 2, 1918, the son of the late Alfred & Mattie Townsend Bailey. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He moved to Morrow County in 1952 from Portsmouth. He worked for General Motors at the Fisher Body Plant in Ontario for 25 years until retiring in 1980. He was a member of the Pines Christian Church. Woody was also an outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening.
He is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law Woody and Carol Bailey of Marion, OH, Gary and Judy Bailey of Moberly, Missouri, and Carnell and Sharon Bailey of Edison, OH; two daughters and sons-in-law Sue and James Mattix of Cardington, OH, and Angela and Allen Walters of Lexington, OH; 7 grandsons, a granddaughter; two great grandchildren; a brother George Bailey of Cleveland, OH; and a sister Golden Bailey of Lexington, KY.
His wife Margaret C. Fike Bailey, whom he married May 10, 1941, preceded him in death on May 24, 1995. Three brothers and four sisters also preceded him in death.
Friends may call at the Snyder Funeral Home in Mt. Gilead on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Gary Bailey and Neil Gilliland will conduct funeral services Thursday at 1:00 p.m. in the Pines Christian Church. Burial will be in Shauck Cemetery in Johnsville. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions can be made to the Pines Mission Fund.
