Winifred “Winnie” Shackelford

Winifred “Winnie” Shackelford, age 76, of Lutz, Florida and formerly of Cardington and Delaware, Ohio, died Thursday morning, December 31, 2004 at Lifepass Hospice House in Sun City, Florida.
She was born in Delaware, Ohio on April 12, 1928 to the late Howard Powell and Edna (Weiser) Rowland. During her years of gainful employment, she found purpose and gratification during her employ at the Worthington Methodist Children’s Home as a cook for the children, and at the Fulton Nursing Home, as a nurse’s aid helping to care for the aged and infirmed. Until the death of her husband, WWII veteran Lawrence Shackelford, Winnie was an active member in the V. F. W. in Delaware and Morrow counties. Winnie will be remembered for her devotion to her family, her continual support and generosity to them, and her indomitable spirit.
She is survived by her loving Daughters; Laurine (John) Taynor of Lutz, FL, Marsha (Craig) Prentice of Scottsdale, AZ., Paulette (Gene) Hedges of Lexington, KY., Grandchildren; Bryan, Gina, Kevin, Chris, Eric, Philip, Michael, and Monica, and Great-Grandchildren; Christopher, Tyler, Courtney, Brittany, Taylor, Kelsea, Hannah, Chase, Aaron, Jordan, Cade, Connor, Payton, and Jaxson, and Sisters; Phyllis Parks of Clay City, KY, Wilma Breece of Marion, Ohio.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Lawrence Shackelford, Brothers; Charles and George Rowland, Sisters; Kathryn Rowland, Gladys Macbeth, Mary Beard, and Helen Hendrix.
Friends may call Wednesday noon to 2:00 p.m. at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, SR 36, Delaware, where funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be at Ashley Union Cemetery.
