Wilma J. Witt

December 22, 1935 ‒ May 23, 2016

Marengo, Ohio

Wilma J. Witt, age 80, of Marengo, passed away Monday morning, May 23, 2016 at Bennington Glen Nursing & Rehab Center.

On December 22, 1935, Wilma was born in Harlan County, KY, the daughter of the late Earnest and Pearle (Hoskins) Moore.

After realizing through friends that there was a mutual attraction, Wilma began dating the destined love of her life, Orcia “Red” Witt.  They were married on May 28, 1955 in Sneedville, TN and shared almost 61 wonderful years together as husband and wife.

Wilma loved being in the outdoors.  She enjoyed working in her flower and vegetable gardens and watching the bird feeders for her favorite birds, Cardinals.  She passed the time reading romance novels or anything to do with history and liked watching the History and Discovery Channels.  Many weekends were spent going to different yard sales or flea markets to buy all of the different knick-knacks and crocks she collected.

Family was the most important part of Wilma’s life.  Any time she could spend with them was a blessing.  Wilma cherished her roles as a darn good homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.  She loved to spoil her grandchildren and great grandchildren, giving them Cheetos or other snacks they enjoyed.

Wilma will be remembered as a strong, loving, warm and thoughtful woman.  She always expressed the faith that things will work out how they are supposed to be.

Wilma will be dearly missed by her husband, Orcia “Red” Witt of Marengo; a daughter, Sharon (Larry) Hildebrand of Marengo; a son, Michael (Juanita) Witt of Marengo; five grandchildren: John (Aundraya) Hildebrand of Walterboro, SC, James (Jamie) Hildebrand of Mount Gilead, Sarah Hildebrand of Orlando, FL, M. Benjamin (Krystal) Witt of Mount Gilead, Nicholis (Taylor) Witt of Marengo; five great grandchildren: Tula, Wren, Connor, Emily and Lucas Hildebrand; a sister, Mamie Hamilton of Chicago, IL; a brother, Charlie Moore of Shawneetown, IL; and her best friend, Audrey Hoskins, of Marengo.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers: Roy, Ed, Ted, and Carl Moore, and two sisters: Maxie Smith and Bessie Moore.

Wilma’s family will greet friends from 4 – 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 26, 2016 at the Snyder Funeral Home, Craven Chapel, 67 N. Main St., Mount Gilead.  Services to honor and celebrate her life will be held there at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 27, 2016 with Jim Brucker officiating.  Burial will follow in Bloomfield Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Morrow County, 228 South St., Mount Gilead, OH 43338, in honor of the wonderful care they provided to Wilma and her family.
