Willis E. Schonauer, age 100, of Pleasant Valley Road, Mount Vernon, passed away on Sunday, March 7, 2010 at the Laurels of Mount Vernon.

He was born on February 16, 1910 in Coshocton County to the late Henry and Sarah (Scherrer) Schonauer. Willis was employed and retired from Pittsburgh Plate Glass (P.P.G.) here in Mount Vernon. He was member of the Clinton Grange for almost eighty years. Willis enjoyed following sports, the Reds, the Browns, the Indians, the Mount Vernon Yellow Jackets, the East Knox Bulldogs. He loved to raccoon hunt, to garden and grow flowers and feed the birds.

He is survived by his daughter, Barbara (Richard) Rudrick of Mount Vernon; three sons, Richard (Debra) Schonauer of Centerburg, Robert (Diana) Schonauer of Caledonia, William (Kathryn) Schonauer of Mount Vernon; ten grandchildren, Melissa Rudrick, Michael Rudrick, Rod Rudrick, Brenda Cornett, Teresa Schonauer, Diana Clayton, Joshua Schonauer, Danielle Altizer, Maggie Linkous, Ryan Schonauer; fourteen great grandchildren; a niece; two great nephews; four great-great nieces and nephews and his dear friends, the Fowler family, of whom he held a special place in his heart.

Besides his parents, Willis was preceded in death by his wife Ruth Schonauer and two sisters, Olene Meekins and Esther Hall.

Friends may call on Thursday from 5 to 7 PM at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home. A service will be held on Friday, at the funeral home, beginning at 11 AM with Rev. Jerry Bell officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
