William VanBuren Deskins Jr. “Junior”

William VanBuren Deskins, Jr. “Junior”, age 86, of Centerburg, went home to Heaven on Tuesday, September 3, 2013 from St. Ann’s Hospital.
He was born June 9, 1927, in Gilbert, West Virginia, to the late William VanBuren and Betty N. (Addair) Deskins. A resident of Centerburg since 2005, Junior was a past member of the Centerburg Church of God.
Retired from Meijer Stores in 2004, he also worked for the Armstrong Furnace Company which later became Magic Chef. He served three tours (12 years) in the military, one each with the US Navy during WWII, the US Army during the Korean Conflict, and the US Air Force during the Cold War era. He is survived by a son, Craig Deskins of Columbus; a daughter, Anita (John) Wallace of Fountain Inn, SC; three grandchildren, Jewel and Sarah Wallace and Christopher Deskins; sisters, Cledith Stewart of Centerburg; Freda Jennings of Westerville; Helen (Elmer) Ball of Centerburg; brothers, William A. “Bill” (Eleanor) Deskins of Westerville; Irvin E. (Ruby) Deskins of Mt. Vernon; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Edward, Homer, Denver, George, Mackey and Eugene Deskins; and a sister Cleo Mahoney.
Friends may call 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, SR’s 3 at 61, Sunbury where a funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday with Pastor Jeffrey Perry officiating. Interment will follow in Eastview Cemetery, Centerburg with military honors rendered by the American Legion Young-Budd Post 171, Westerville.
