William Ronnie ‘Wimp’ Young

William Ronnie “Wimp” Young, age 71, of Marion passed away at his home on Monday, September 30, 2019.

Wimp was born in Martin County, Kentucky on October 14, 1947 to the late George and Molly Ruth (Bowen) Young.  Wimp and his family moved to Marion when he was a child, here he attended Harding High School.

Wimp was drafted into the US Army where he served during the Vietnam War.  After being honorably discharged, Wimp worked for many years for Erie Lackawanna and Conrail Railroads and later sold cars.  Wimp found his calling being a long distance truck driver retiring after more than 30 years.

Wimp was a member of The American Legion 162 and The AmVets Post 132.  He was an outgoing and loving man who would do anything for his daughter and grandchildren.  He loved to ride his Harley and could often be found rooting on the Buckeye or enjoying a Sunday afternoon NASCAR race.

Wimp will be missed by his daughter, Shellie Young of Marion; loving companion, Judi Young; grandchildren, Codi Young, Chance Young, and Jaden Hall; and sister, Shirley (Cecil) Friley of Marion.

In addition to his parents, Wimp was preceded in death by siblings, Lonnie Young, Alice Young, Kay Blackman, and Wanda Young and son, Craig Watts.

Visitation will be held at Snyder Funeral Home, Gunder/Hall Chapel (347 West Center St.) from 4 until 7 pm on Thursday, October 3, 2019.  An 11:30 AM funeral will be held at the funeral home on Friday with Celebrant Galen McLeod officiating and Military Honors provided by The Marion Area United Veteran’s Council.
