William M. O’Brien, 84, of Broadway St., Mount Vernon passed away unexpectedly Friday evening, March 7, 2008 in the Emergency Room at Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon.
He was born on January 5, 1924 in Mount Vernon, a son of the late Lewis and Mildred Sharp O’Brien.
William was an Army Veteran of W.W.II.
He is survived by a son, Gary (Julie) O’Brien of Mount Vernon and daughters, Barbara (Jay) Morris and Nancy (John) Wolford both of Mount Vernon; seven grandchildren, Gary O’Brien Jr., Kyle O’Brien, Teresa Brate, Laura Mabe, Corey Daily, Randy Morris, and Ronnie Morris; five great grandchildren; and a sister, Helen Lober of Mount Vernon.
In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by his wife, Betty (Stevens) O’Brien; a son, William O’Brien; brothers, Lewis and James O’Brien; and sisters, Eva Cline and Pauline Lauderbaugh.
The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 12, 2008 at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Rd., Mount Vernon. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 13, 2008 in the Mound View Cemetery with Pastor Tim Overly officiating. The Knox County Joint Veterans Council will provide the Military Graveside Services.
