William F. Jones, age 83 of Delaware passed away Saturday morning, September 24, 2011 at Riverside Hospital.

He was born on January 5, 1928 near Golden City, MO to the Ebon and Emma (Poindexter) Jones. A graduate of Golden City High School, he was a US Navy veteran of WW II and the Korean Conflict. Bill attended Missouri University graduating from Oklahoma Baptist University in 1961. He then moved to Kansas City where he attended seminary in preparation for the ministry as a Southern Baptist Pastor, serving in that capacity in Missouri and then Darbydale, Ohio until 1970.

Bill was married to Alberta Hoover of Liberal, MO on March 13, 1959. To this union were born Michael Jones and Susan (Jones) Kindler both of Columbus, and William Dale Jones of London.

He was employed by the Bureau of Vocational Development (now Rehabilitation Service Center) from 1972 until his retirement in 1992. Pleasant and talkative, Bill was well liked and a strong christian.

In 1978, he married his second wife, Dorothy Strayer, together they raised Piedmontese beef cattle on their farm near Alum Creek and where he was the happiest. They faithfully attended the Riverside Bible Church for many years and traveled throughout the United States together until her passing in 2008.

In addition to his children he is also survived by granddaughter: Abby Kindler, step-sons: David, Edlin, and Keith Strayer, step-daughters: Donna Strayer and Leona (Rodney) Shoop,step-grandson: Kyle Strayer, sister: Pauline Dunn of Annapolis, MD, and several nieces, nephews, and a lifetime of friends.

He was also preceded by sisters: Beatrice Jones, Bernice Hutchins, Velma Meister, and Kathrine Wilson.

Friends may call 2-4 & 6-8 Thursday at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home in Delaware, where memorial services will begin Thursday at 7:30 p.m., officiated by Celebrant Don Lockwood. Inurnment will follow in the Antioch Cemetery in Missouri.
