LEXINGTON: William G. “Bill” Waite, 84, of Lexington, died Sunday afternoon July 8, 2001 in Lexington Court Care Center following a short illness.

He was born February 3, 1917 in Findlay to G. Sherwood and Ferol Frances Bowen Waite, was graduated from Findlay High School and studied engineering at Case Western University in Cleveland.

Originally trained as a glider pilot, Bill was a WWII Army veteran, serving in relay stations behind enemy lines in the Pacific Theater.

A former engineer with The Mansfield Tire & Rubber Company, he retired in 1982 from teaching with the Madison School District.

He was a member of Berean Baptist Church, Charles Hoffman Lodge #767 F&AM; Bellville Chapter Order of Eastern Star; the Ohio Retired Teachers Association; and the Lexington Senior-Civic Center.

He is survived by his wife Edythe Lowe Waite, whom he married April 11, 1959; a son and daughter-in-law Michael L. & Joyce Waite of Moraine; two daughters and sons-in-law Judy & Andrew Miller of Bellville and Jennifer & Walter Tun of Raleigh, NC; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and a half sister Charlotte Smiley of Ft. Lauderdale, FL.

Friends may call Tuesday July 10, 2001 from 7-9 pm in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home, where the funeral service will be held Wednesday at 10:30 am. Pastors Jim Berry and Craig Hamm will officiate. Burial will follow in Lexington Cemetery, where the Richland County Joint Veterans Council will hold graveside military honors.
