MANSFIELD: William Council Fisher, 92, of Mansfield, died Thursday evening October 20, 2005.
Following several months of declining health, he went to be with the Lord, from his own home, family at his bedside.
He was born September 14, 1913 in Salisbury, North Carolina to Gus Broyles and Florence (Hucklebee) Broyles Fisher.
He entered employment with the former Norfolk & Western Railway Company (now Norfolk & Southern Corp.). As messenger “GM” Telegraph Office, he was transferred to the Pass Bureau as Clerk, promoted to Assistant Manager and appointed to Manager of the Pass Bureau by President Herman H. Pevler. He retired with 43 years of service.
William was a servant of Christ, not just in words, but in actions and in truth…he fought the good fight, he finished the race, he kept the faith!
He was a member of Patterson Memorial Grace Brethren Church, Hollins, Virginia, and a former deacon and financial secretary to the church.
William served as a former board member on the Board of Evangelism for the Grace Brethren National Conference, as well as a former secretary of the National Fellowship of Grace Brethren Men.
His wife of 61 years, Dorothy Wray Fisher, preceded him in death on February 5, 2003.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Dotty Lou and James Smith of Roanoke, Virginia; his son Stephen Wray Fisher of Mansfield; his grandson and his wife Robert and Kristina Fisher of Coventry, Rhode Island; a granddaughter Lindsey J. Fisher of Cincinnati; a great grandson Andrew Fisher of Cincinnati; two half sisters Dora Payne and Helen Bird both of Roanoke, Virginia.
The family will receive friends Friday, October 28, 2005 from 6-8 pm in Lotz & Rader Funeral Home, 1330 East Main Street, Salem, Virginia, 24153, where the funeral service will be held Saturday at Noon. Pastor Don Eshelman will officiate. Burial will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park, Salem, Virginia.
The Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home is serving the family.
