William D. Angel

William D. “Bill” Angel, age 88, of Delaware and formerly Berkshire Township died Monday evening May 19, 2008 at Sarah Moore Home in Delaware.
He was born on December 2, 1919 in Castalia, Ohio to the late Louis and Eleanora (Stadler) Angel. Longtime active member of the Rural Chapel United Methodist Church and had served on many of the church’s boards, committees and as a trustee. Bill was a founding member of Del-Co Water and served on the board until retiring in 1999 and was the one who came up with the name Del-Co. He had worked for Chemical Abstracts retiring in 1975 with 25 years of service, Sieco Engineering and the Department of Liquor Control. Former member of the Berkshire Twp. Zoning Board.
Bill was also an avid gardener having won many awards at the Delaware County Fair. He was most noted for his tomatoes having at one time planted 3500 plants almost entirely by himself in one growing season. In his gardens he also grew eggplant, cucumbers, strawberries, raspberries and peppers and enjoyed selling the produce he grew at the area farmers markets. Other hobbies included TV repair, carpentry, and spending time at his cabin at Pleasant Hill Lake.
Bill also enjoyed sporting events but most importantly the Ohio State Buckeye Football, attending many games and even introducing his granddaughter, Maria, to Woody Hayes. He also was a fan of the Cleveland Browns.
He is survived by sons: Dr. William D. (Sally) Angel Jr. of St Marys, Rev. Andrew S. (Gail) Angel of Shelby; daughters: Rev. Esther Jo Angel of Polson, MT, Dr. Etta (Nick) Saltos of Gaithersburg, MD. 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Brother: Louis Angel of Fremont, IN; sister: Betty Lieberman of Rocky River.
He was preceded in death by his wife Ruth Annabelle (Pryor) Angel on October 25, 1979, grandson: Danny Schwartz, brother: James.
Friends may call Saturday from 5- 8 p.m. at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, SR 3 at 61, Sunbury. Services will be held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. Rural Chapel United Methodist Church, 5860 Cheshire Road, Galena with Rev. Robert Wright officiating. Interment will follow in the Berkshire Cemetery.
