Willard Edgar Mackey, Jr., 69, of Galion, Ohio, went to his resting place on Wednesday evening, January 4, 2012, at the home of his son in Galion, following an extended illness.

Born on September 11, 1942 in Shelby, Ohio, he was the son of the late Willard Edgar Mackey, Sr. and Christina Mae Neumann Mackey, who survives in Galion. Willard graduated from Crestline High School in 1960, where he was a star basketball player. On October 19, 1963, he wed his wife of 48 years, Sandra Jean Scribner Mackey, who survives. Also surviving are four children, Willard Ed Edgar Mackey, III and wife Julie Pachinger of Kipton; Melissa Lisa Annette Timmons and husband, Gary, of Frankfort; Matthew Adam Mackey and wife Paula Nickler of Galion; and Shawna Nadene Mackey of Galion. Along with his children, Willard was also blessed with eight grandchildren; Emily, Kayla, Erika, Gary III Trey, Katrina, Dakota, David and Daniel. He is also survived by a brother, David L. Mackey and wife, Becky of Mansfield; a sister, Mary M. Montgomery, of Galion; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Willard Edgar Mackey, Sr., a brother-in-law, Steve Montgomery, and most recently his faithful canine companion, Molly.

Willard began his career as an automotive mechanic, later working as a service manager for several local automotive dealerships, most recently at Donley Ford of Galion. After retiring due to health issues, he enjoyed gardening, raising beef cattle, woodworking, being outdoors and spending time with his family.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday, January 8, 2012 at Richardson-Davis Funeral Home in Galion. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, January 9, with Mr. Howard Kinstle officiating. Burial will follow in Olentangy Cemetery in Crawford County.

Memorial contributions may be made to three special grandchildren for furthering their educations, in care of Sandra Mackey.
