William Vernon Garris, 81, of Mt. Gilead, passed away Tuesday, August 27, 2002 at the Morrow County Hospital ECF.
He was born February 26, 1921 in Gimlet, KY the son of Charlie & Alice (Sammons) Garris who precede him in death. He was a Veteran of the United States Army serving during WWII. He was employed by Westinghouse from 1944-48, he farmed from 1948-1956 and worked for Artesian Industries from which he retired in 1984.
William is survived by his wife Margie (Cox) Garris, whom he married May 8, 1948, 6 daughters and sons-in-law; Linda (Jerry) Efaw, Frieda Garris Moore, Joan (Greg) Kuhn, Rhonda Garris and fiancé Grover Reynolds, Jodi (Doug) Hayes and Kim (Wayne) Hedrick, 2 sons and daughter-in-law; Jack Garris and Doug (Kim) Garris, a sister Edith Boggs, a brother James Garris, 24 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by 2 sisters; Jewel Cox and Thelma Mayberry and 3 brothers; Edward, Charles O. and Dewey Garris.
Friends may call Friday, August 30, 2002 from 2-4 & 6-8 pm at the Snyder Funeral Home, 76 S. Main St., Mt. Gilead, where Reverend Bruce Hartley will conduct funeral services Saturday at 11 am. Interment with military honors by VFW Post #8054 will be in Bryn Zion Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Woodside Village Nursing Home or Morrow County Hospital.
