MANSFIELD: Willa Jean Hedrick, 78, of Richwood Drive, died Monday evening, June 21, 2004, in Woodlawn Health Care & Rehabilitation, following a long illness.

She was born September 6, 1925, in Chicago, Illinois, to Milton R. and Veronica Chase Herder and was graduated from Hammond High School, Hammond, Indiana with the class of 1943. She was a graduate of Hartnet Business College and had attended Indiana University.

Willa Jean worked as a legal secretary for Gertner & Gertner in Columbus and served as an Executive Secretary for Galion-Dresser.

She was married to Richard E. Hedrick on July 26, 1953 and moved to the Mansfield area in 1973. She and her husband attended the First Presbyterian Church where she was a Stephen Minister, sang in the choir and was secretary of the Presbyterian Women’s Association. Willa Jean was a former secretary of the YWCA Board, secretary of the League of Women’s Voters, served on the Board of Directors of the Lung Association, was past president Eight County Area Lung Association, Baku Grotto Women’s Association, and Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. In her spare time she loved sewing and catering.

She is survived a niece and her husband Jody and Thomas Michna; their daughters Katherine and Sarah; and a nephew and his wife Timothy and Mary Rausch; and their children Kelly and Andrew.

In addition to her parents and husband, brothers Eugene Herder and William James Herder and sister Ruth Herder Rausch preceded her in death.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, June 26, 2004 at 10 am in the chapel of First Presbyterian Church, 399 South Trimble Road, Mansfield, with the Rev. Dr. David Hartzfeld officiating. Friends may call in the church parlor from 9 am until the time of the service. Burial will be in Mansfield Cemetery.
