Wendell T. “Wendy” Furnis, age 89, of Old Mansfield Road, Fredericktown, passed away on Thursday, July 7, 2011 at the Country Court Nursing Home in Mount Vernon.

He was born on October 20, 1921 in Pickaway County, Ohio to the late Herman and Ethel Belle (Liston) Furnis. Wendy was employed by and retired from Foote Foundry LLC in Fredericktown. He was an avid Ohio State fan and was a Veteran serving in the United States Navy during World War II.

Wendy is survived by his wife, of over 62 years, Mary (Burton) Furnis; his daughter Valerie (Herman) Tharp-Shelton of Mansfield; four sons, Mike (Alice) Furnis of Bellville, David (Debbie) Furnis of Coshocton, Chuck Furnis of Fredericktown, John (Tina) Furnis of Texas; ten grandchildren; twenty one great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and two sisters, Florence Mohart of Mechanicsburg and Margaret Natrop of Worthington.

Besides his parents, Wendy was preceded in death by his sister June Hurst and his brother Floyd Furnis.

Friends may call on Tuesday, July 12, 2011 from 12-2PM at the Snyder Funeral Home in Fredericktown. A service will follow, at the funeral home, beginning at 2PM with Pastor Joe Overholt officiating. Burial, with military honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veteran’s Council, will be held in Friendship Cemetery.
