Wayne E. Miller, 81, of Galion, died Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2009 at Olentangy Woods Nursing Center in Galion, after an extended illness.

Born May 6, 1928 in Mansfield, he was the son of the late Avery Miller and Dorothea Henry Miller. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Joan M. Geckley Miller, whom he married Sept. 29, 1967.

Wayne first worked for and retired from the Pennsylvania Rail Road in Crestline. He then worked in manufacturing at the former North Electric in Galion, retiring in 1990.

Wayne enjoyed beekeeping, gardening, assembling model airplanes, crossword puzzles and hunting. He also liked children and, along with his wife, volunteered for five years in the Ohio Reads program at Highland Schools, helping kindergarten through fourth grade students improve their reading skills.

In addition to his wife, he is also survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Richard “Rick” and Janice Miller of Crestline; one daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Dan Miklosko of San Marcos, Calif.; two step-children and spouses, Brenda and Dan Keller of Marengo and Brian and Kathi Snyder of Mobile, Ala.; four grandchildren, Chris Jaclyn Hirtz, Alysia Napolitano, Vicki Miller and Jeff Evie Miller; five step-grandchildren, Jerri Richard Evans, Valerie Geoff Price, Randy Jody Keller, Brian Kim Snyder and Bridgit Jonathan McCarty; three great-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; one brother, Eugene “Jim” “Shorty” Miller of Galion; one sister and brother-in-law, Karol and Carl Hoffer of Boca Raton, Fla. and one niece and three nephews.

He was preceded in death by one great-granddaughter, Amanda Jeffries; one step-great-granddaughter, Jenna Keller and his former wife, Alta Blanche Coykendall Miller Hoffman.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 27, 2009 at Fairview Cemetery with Rev. Joe Stafford officiating. There will be no calling hours.
