Walter Mahon Jr., age 69 of Columbus went to be with the Lord on Monday evening, September 12, 2005 at Mt. Carmel East.

He was born in Ragland, West Virginia on March 16, 1936 to the late Walter Sr. and Dorothy (Varney) Mahon. He worked as a truck driver for Consolidated Freightways, and attended the Cornerstone Church of God in Gahanna. Walter had a passion for gospel singing, spending time with his family, and traveling.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife: Joan (Knight) Mahon, sons: Dwayne and Kenneth, grandchildren: Abby, Ryan, and Aaron, brothers: Harold (Rosalee) Mahon of Galena and Melvin (Carol) Mahorn of Ravenswood, W.V., sisters: Ima (Arthur) Messer, and Vicie (John) Messer both of Utica, father-in-law: Oscar Adkins of Columbus, brothers-in-law: George (Floramae) Hodge of Columbus, and Alex (Linda) Knight of Logan, and loving nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his brothers: Ernest, Wayne, and Jimmy, and mother-in-law: Sarah Adkins.

Friends may call on Thursday from Noon – 2 p.m. at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, SR 3 at SR 61, Sunbury, where funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Bob Owens officiating. Burial will follow at Trenton Cemetery.
