Walter Brooks O’Dell, age 78, of Miller Ave, Mount Vernon, passed away on Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Walter was born on December 24, 1934 in Harrison County, West Virginia to the late Leslie and Pansy (Kern) O’Dell. He served in the United States Army security agency in Germany and Europe from 1957 to 1960. Walter retired from Pittsburgh Plate Glass and Continental Can in Mount Vernon. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed working with wood. Walter was a member of Faith Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife Marilyn (Case) O’Dell, two daughters, Pamela Ballard of Mount Vernon, Tamara Youell of Florida, two step-daughters, Carol (Jeff) Laser of Bellville and Dr. Kathy Rinnert of Dallas, Texas, four grandchildren, three great grandchildren, a brother, Roger (Diane) O’Dell of Mount Vernon and a sister-in-law, Sandy O’Dell of Mount Vernon.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by four brothers, Alan, Fred, Robert and Darrell O’Dell, two sisters, Joan Frye and Phyllis Hubbard.
The family will observe a graveside service later this summer. The Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home of Mount Vernon is handling arrangements for the O’Dell family.
