W. Dean Beck

W. Dean Beck, 74, of Fredericktown passed away Thursday morning, August 16, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on February 21, 1944 in Mansfield to the late George P. and Ruth E. (Queen) Beck.

Dean honorably served his country in the Army during the Vietnam War. He retired in 1999 from the Mount Gilead Post Office where he was the Post Master.  In his spare time, Dean enjoyed working on the farm and planting his garden, but most of all he loved spending time with his grandsons.  He was an avid sports fan of the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Indians, the Browns and the Ohio State Buckeyes.  Dean was a serious baseball card collector and attended many baseball card conventions.

Dean is survived by his wife, Shelia (Jewell) Beck whom he married on August 29, 1968; children, Jimmy (Rosalind) Beck of Fredericktown, Jamie Conner of Mount Vernon, and Jessica (James) Anderson of Fredericktown; grandsons, Richard, Andrew, Tyler, Jordan and Jeremiah; great grandchildren, Ryder and Lillian; sister, Sherry (Gerald) Williams of Harrison; brother, Arthur “Pete” (Phyllis) Beck of Sunbury; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the time of a memorial service celebrating the life of Dean at 2 p.m. on Sunday, August 19, 2018 at the Waterford Church of Christ, 20545 Waterford Rd., Fredericktown with Joel Cassetto, Don Linn and Ray Linn officiating.

    I was saddened to hear of Dean’s passing, it was truly bittersweet.
    Sorry to lose him, but comforted that he is with his Lord and no longer dealing with the awful effects of ALS and the suffering that went along with it.
    When I think of Dean, I certainly know that one of his many spiritual gifts was serving.
    Dean was the epitome of a servant’s heart, serving his Lord, serving his church, serving his church family and certainly serving his wife Sheila and his ENTIRE family!
    Dean will be sorely missed by us all.

Dean was such a great person; a man of the highest character and always with a tremendous sense of wit and humor. We feel so fortunate that we got to know Dean through our hobby.
