Virginia L. Davenport, 80, of Ashley, passed away on Monday, April 30, 2018 at Grady Memorial Hospital, Delaware.

She was born on November 30, 1937 in Berlin Township, daughter  to the late Laurens and Mary (Jones) Davenport Aldrich.   She was a lifelong area resident .  Virginia was a 1956 graduate of the Willis High School.  In 1966, she moved to Ashley.  She went to work for the former General Telephone Company/Verizon, for 30 years, where she had been a switchboard operator and then in framework.  Virginia then worked at the Delaware Fraternal Order of Eagles for over 10 years.  She was also an avid bingo player, also enjoyed the instant lottery tickets, watching NASCAR  races, golf matches and especially watching the soap opera, “The Young and the Restless.”   She loved spending time with her family and hosted many Easter and Thanksgiving dinners.  Virginia will always be remembered as the caregiver to many family members.

Virginia will forever be treasured by her daughter, Dedra (John) Hall of Cardington;  three grandchildren, Danell Hall, Lauren Hall and Marissa Hall; one sister, Sheila (Lee) Milligan of Delaware; two brothers, Darryl (Sharon) Davenport and Garth (Linda) Aldrich, both of Delaware; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Evelyn Church,Phyllis “ Susie” Matlack and Allison Ann Dean and one brother, Buck Davenport.

Friends may call 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, May 3, 2018 at the Snyder Rodman Funeral Center, 101 Valleyside Drive, Delaware, where services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, and officiated by Rev. Beth Ortiz, Pastor of the Ashley and Kilbourne United Methodist Church.  Burial will follow in Ashley Union Cemetery.

Memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
