Virgie Mae Peoples, 90, of Delaware passed away Friday afternoon, February 23, 2018 at WillowBrook at Delaware Run.

She was born January 15, 1928 in Winston Salem, North Carolina to the late Dennis and Fannie (Nelson) Kiger. She served as a receptionist for Ohlone Community College in Fremont, California for many years before moving back to North Carolina.

A Delaware resident since 2005, Virgie was an active member of the Bethany Baptist Church and she loved playing Scrabble.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, James (Deborah) Peoples of Delaware and Cynde Peoples of Delaware; grandchildren, David William Small, Scott James Small, Sara Marie Meacham, and Matthew Steven Peoples; great-granddaughter, Addison Small; sister, Gail Rybczyk of Gastonia, North Carolina; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to her parents, Virgie was preceded in death by her husband Pete and her siblings Truman, Willard and Bud Kiger, Sylvia Rhodes, and Bobby Jack Kiger.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the devoted staff in the Memory Care Unit at WillowBrook for the wonderful care given to Virgie over the past several years.

Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at 1:00 pm at Oak Grove Cemetery in Delaware.

  • I am truly sorry to hear of Virgie’s passing. I am a volunteer for Heartland Hospice and spent Sunday mornings with Virgie since last September. She had the most beautiful blue eyes and I would tell her so when we were visiting. I will miss her terribly. Please accept my heartfelt condolences for the entire family.
