Johnsville, Ohio

JOHNSVILLE: Vilena Ogdelene (Rhea) Shoenfelt, age 85, peacefully passed away Friday, January 22, 2021, in her Johnsville home with her two children by her side.

Vilena was born December 10, 1935, in Braxton County, WV the daughter of James Arthur & Beulah E. (Blagg) Rhea. On Valentine’s Day 1955, she married David Ray Shoenfelt whom she met at a square dance held in the Johnsville Oddfellows Hall. They went on to have square dance date nights most Saturdays and enjoyed a wonderful marriage until he passed away in 2014. They are now together again.

Vilena was an outdoor person who absolutely loved her flowers and loved to garden both flowers and vegetables. She was a “West Virginia girl“ and loved to be outside on her riding mower. Her number one priority was taking care of her family and always put others before herself. One luxury she enjoyed was watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy and watching her favorite channel—the Game Show Network!

She is survived by her daughter Debra Shoenfelt and son Ronald Shoenfelt both of Johnsville; brother-in-law Jim (Nancy) Shoenfelt; sister-in-law Janet Griffeth, Linda Black, and Shirley Rhea; numerous nieces and nephews; and close family friends Bill &Tammy and their kids Thomas & Nicole.

In addition to her dear husband David Shoenfelt, she was preceded in death by siblings Victor Rhea, Vandal Rhea, Vernon Rhea, Veatrice Boggs, Vivani Salsgiver, and Velerah Kurtz; and siblings-in-law Joe Shoenfelt, Richard Shoenfelt, and Ruth Ann Wilson.

A graveside service honoring the lives of David & Vilena will be held 1:00 PM Friday, January 29, 2021 at the graveside in Shauck Cemetery at Johnsville officiated by her nephew Tim Salsgiver. Military honors for David will be performed by active duty members of the United States Navy.
