Vernon “Ralph” Gibson
February 15, 1943 ‒ December 26, 2007
Vernon “Ralph” Gibson, 64, of Fredericktown died Wednesday December 26, 2007 at the Morrow County Hospital after a lengthy illness.
He was born on February 15, 1943 in Huntington, West Virginia the son of the late Avis Gibson. Ralph grew up in southern Ohio and attended South Point High School.
He married Gail Ann Robbins on May 2, 1966 in South Point Ohio. After their marriage they lived in Columbus for a short time before moving to Marengo, then on to Fredericktown, where they have lived for 43 years.
Ralph was an HVAC technician for The Ohio State University in Columbus before a disability forced his retirement in 1986.
He will be remembered as the “alpha male”. Always doing the man thing; whether he was hunting or fishing, collecting guns and coins, or taking the family on road trips in the family RV, Ralph was a man’s man. He never missed his “men’s night” out on Knox Lake, where he and the guys would fish, drink, and have excellent conversion.
A near death experience in 1994 led him and the family on many excursions out west, including a memorable experience to Mount Rushmore. Ralph was always on an adventure to see things.
Before his health failed him Ralph was a lovable, yet ornery prankster. One, who understandably loved his football, especially the Cleveland Browns and The Ohio State Buckeyes.
He will be missed by his wife and their two daughters Stephanie (Ryan) Cavanaugh and Crystal Brewster both of Fredericktown; two grandchildren Brianna and Nicholas; two half brothers William and Charles Whaley of Cerado, West Virginia; and a half sister Mary Lou of Florida.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his uncle Charles Henry Gibson.
Funeral services will be held on Monday December 31, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at the Snyder Funeral Home, 76 South Main Street, Mount Gilead with Pastor Gary Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to the service.
In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Foundation or the National MS Foundation, Ohio Buckeye Chapter, 6155 Rockside Road, Suite 202, Independence, Ohio 44131.
