MANSFIELD: Verna Chaffin, 87, of Mansfield, passed away peacefully Monday, August 10, 2015.

The daughter of Ernest and Agnes (Thompson) Perry, Verna was born January 23, 1928 in Louisa, Kentucky.

Dedicated to her family, Verna’s love was unconditional.  Everything she cooked was delicious, including homemade biscuits and gravy, corn bread, and any kind of pie or cake.

She made many beautiful handmade quilts for her family.  She was a member of Community Baptist Church and attended Gospel Assembly Church.

She is survived by her son Larry (Leslie) Chaffin of Mansfield; grandchildren Stephanie (Mike) Atkeson of Mansfield, John Chaffin of Mansfield, Jeff Chaffin of Ashland, and Natalie (John) Coots of Wooster; eight great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; sister Irene Poe of Mansfield; sister-in-law Vivian Perry of Mansfield.

Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Earl Chaffin; sons Gary and Ricky Chaffin; and siblings Everett and Chet Perry and Liz Roberts.

The family will receive friends Thursday, August 13, 2015 from 10am to 12 noon in the Marion Avenue Snyder Funeral Home where funeral services will begin at 12 noon.  Pastor Daniel Baer will officiate and burial will follow in Mansfield Cemetery.

  • Larry, So sorry to hear of the passing of your mother. I recently lost my mother on this past New Years Eve , 2014, so I can really relate on how you and family must feel. She was a really nice lady. Also give my sympathies to Natalie. I worked with her for a short time when I was with the Red Cross.
