Verlon R. Bricker

April 12, 1941 ‒ June 13, 2019

Mount Gilead, Ohio

Verlon R. Bricker, age 78, of Mount Gilead, went to be with the Lord, Thursday morning, June 13, 2019, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on April 12, 1941, in Athens, OH, to the late William F. and Lynn (Johnson) Bricker. In 1959, Verlon graduated from Shade High School and went on to further his education at Ohio University where he studied History and English.

Finding his one true love, Verlon married Sharon M. Fiske on January 15, 1966. While courting her Verlon would often pick her up in his 1965 yellow Dodge Dart of which he also used to drag race in.

For many years, Verlon worked as a machinist. He started at Cooper Industries and would retire from Ariel Corporation in Mount Vernon. Verlon also ran squad for Morrow County and was stationed in Cardington.

A man of deep faith, Verlon was a member of Edison Enterprise Baptist Church where he served as an associate pastor. Verlon was the director of Prison Ministries for 20 years in southern Ohio and also was involved with the Ministry at the Morrow County Jail. He also served as a volunteer chaplain for Hospice of Morrow County and the Morrow County Hospital. Verlon graciously went where the Lord called him which led him to minister to various local churches when they were in need of a pastor in the pulpit.

Verlon was an amateur historian. He loved military history with a special interest in the Civil War. Verlon enjoyed collecting G.I. Joes, guns, books, and his prize possession in life was the 1953 Olds car he named Sharon after the love of his life. Most importantly, Verlon loved his family and the time he was able to share with them.

He will be dearly missed by his love, Sharon; children: Verlon Howard (Faith) Bricker of Marion, William and Charlene (whom he helped raise as a daughter) Bricker of Edison, Shane (Wendy) Bricker of Pickerington,  and John (Jodi) Bricker of Galena; grandchildren: Angela, Jennifer, Michael, Kavoc, Drew, Emsley, Haydon, Carson, Amelia, Abigail, Lilly; great grandchildren: Gannon, October, Victoria, Elizabeth, Lennox; a brother, William Bricker; sisters: Linda Kay and Elaine Bricker; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Verlon was preceded in death by his parents: William and Lynn; and brothers: Bobby and Danny Bricker.

In keeping with Verlon’s wishes, a private family gathering will be held at a later date.

If desired, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to either Hospice of Morrow County and/or Edison Enterprise Baptist Church.

  • Sharon, I am so sorry to hear of Verlon’s passing. I will never forget him giving me a hard time when he came to his Dr. Appointments. I sure miss you all and am so sorry for your loss.

  • Sharon and family:
I so enjoyed the various times I had in visiting with Verlon. No words can truly express all one feels in the passing of a loved one, however, Verlon believed as do I, that he has earned his reward and is now in the very arms of Jesus, his Savior. May the Holy Spirit, the Great Comforter, surround you all at this time and bring you peace.
