Verdene Alta “Dee” Chipman

April 15, 1930 ‒ April 27, 2009

Lexington, Ohio

LEXINGTON~ Verdene Alta “Dee” Chipman, 79, of Lexington, passed away Monday morning April 27, 2009 in MedCentral Mansfield Hospital following a short illness.

She was born April 15, 1930 in Pontiac, Michigan to Charles and Bertha (Hook) Prall, and was graduated from Pontiac Central High School.

She moved to the Lexington area in 1958, and after 20 years as a homemaker raising her four children, she went to work for various companies doing secretarial work. She then accepted a position as a secretary with the Richland County Mental Retardation Board at Raintree, retiring just this past December 31, 2008.

Dee was young at heart; her very favorite activity was dancing. She traveled to dances in many different cities with her now deceased friend Mary. She loved to be outdoors, either walking or doing her yard work. She collected angels, and when someone would admire one, she generously gave it to them. A bargain shopper at heart, Dee always had her eye on the very best deals, but the real treasure was giving those purchases to people in need.

Summertime would perhaps find her enjoying a motorcycle ride or attending various county fairs with a friend.. One of her favorite vacation destinations was Las Vegas, to spend time with family members who live there, and enjoy all that is Las Vegas.

When relaxing at home she could be found watching movies. Dee often shared her thoughts and opinions about her favorite shows. Her favorite continuing series was Dancing With The Stars. This past January she attended their national tour in Cleveland as a gift from her granddaughter Tracy and her husband Mike.

A loving and encouraging mother, Dee will be remembered for fostering a warm and supportive home, while her children were growing up. She considered this her most important life-work, and cherished each of her children as individuals, and was most proud of the “good hearts” of her children.

Surviving are her children Cynthia (Joe) Chipman-Gibson of Clovis, NM, James M. (Carol) Chipman of Lexington, Claudia (Matthew) Burrage of Ontario, and Kurt Chipman of Las Vegas, NV; ten grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; a sister Phyllis Velasquez of Fenton, MI, a sister-in-law Cecilia Prall of Las Vegas, NV; nieces and nephews; and a dear friend Jo Seamon.

She was preceded in death by sisters Charlene Crawley and Beverly Novak, and brothers Charles Prall, Clifton Prall, and Harry Prall.

The memorial service will be held Thursday May 7, 2009 at 6 p.m. in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home. Her children will speak.

The family requests there are no flowers sent in memory of Dee.
