Velma “Tudie” M. Ward
October 03, 1950 ‒ June 27, 2011
MANSFIELD: Velma “Tudie” M. Ward passed away in Lexington Court on Monday, June 27, 2011. She was 60.
Tudie was born in Morehead, Kentucky on October 3, 1950 to parents Elwood and Beaulah (Buckner) Brown. She graduated from Northmor High School in 1969 and went on the Minnesota Arts School from which Tudie graduated in 1972. Later that same year she married Alvie D. Ward who preceded her in death in 1982.
A longtime Mansfield resident, Tudie was a member of the People’s Baptist Church and enjoyed using her talents to serve others. She would often give up her own holidays to serve meals at homeless kitchens and at the local Salvation Army; a true example of selflessness. Her free time was spent on her art (she was a skilled interior decorator), working in her garden, and dotting on her faithful canine companion, Maggie.
She is survived by her father of Mt. Gilead, and siblings: Sandra White of Mt. Gilead, Pamela & Kenny, Sr. Daughriety of Mt. Vernon, Shonnie & Ronald Sexton of Mansfield, and Mike & Sherry Brown of Mt. Gilead along with nieces and nephews: Kenny Jr., William, Danielle, Courtney, Candy, Curtis, Pepsi, and Brianna and numerous great-nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, and many cousins.
In addition to her husband, Tudie was preceded in death by her mother.
Tudie’s family will receive friends on Thursday, June 30, 2011 from 5-8pm at the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 1, 2011 at the People’s Baptist Church at 11am where burial will follow at Oak Grove Memorial Park. Pastor James Spencer will officiate.
Contributions in Tudie’s memory to MedCentral Hospice may be made through the funeral home.
