Velma S. Simmons, age 84, of Fredericktown, died Tuesday November 23, 2010 at her residence. Velma was born April 8, 1926 in Morrow County to Huston and Maggie (Gadd) Williams and had spent her lifetime in Morrow and Knox Counties. Velma and her husband Cecil owned and operated school buses for the Fredericktown School System as well as maintained the family farm where she helped in the fields and barns. She was also a devoted housewife and mother to their five children. Velma also had worked for several local factories.

Velma was a member of the Salem United Methodist Church near Fredericktown, the Ann Hill Chapter, Order of Eastern Star in Fredericktown and a 50 year member of Wayne Grange.

Surviving are her daughters Jean (Lowell) Baxter, Kim (Roger) Dixon and Roxanna Morrison all of Fredericktown; sons Gerald (Sandy) Simmons of Coshocton and Gordon (Shirley) Simmons of Fredericktown; 15 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren her sister Mary Kathryn (Forrest) Leaman of Florida and brothers Hobert Williams of Mount Gilead and Herman Williams of Bainbridge. Besides her parents Velma was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years Cecil Simmons and sisters Violet McDonald and Vivian Myers.

Friends may call Sunday November 28, 2010 from 1pm to 4pm at the Snyder Funeral Home 33 East College Street, Fredericktown, Ohio 43019 where Ann Hill Chapter, Order of Eastern Star will conduct memorial services following the calling hours. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home Monday November 29, 2010 at 11am with Joe Overholt officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Cemetery in Fredericktown.
