Velma B. Moody, age 87, died Thursday, July 17, 2003, at the Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus from an aneurysm suffered earlier in the day.
She was born on March 7, 1916, in Cambridge, Ohio, daughter of the late Downard and Rachel (Tither) Wilson. Her childhood and early adult life were spent in Guernsey, Muskingum and Franklin Counties. For the past 41 years she resided in Fredericktown, Ohio. Velma was a member of the Fredericktown United Methodist Church and was always active in her church teaching Sunday School, advising youth and young adult activities, United Methodist Women and serving on various committees. She had also been active in Grange, Farm Bureau Councils and extension homemaker council. She retired as a bookkeeper for C.C. Cochran, Gulf oil distributor later Landmark Co-op. She enjoyed raising flowers especially roses.
Surviving are her sons, William H. (Karen) Moody of Fredericktown, and Donald (Mary Jo) Moody of New Concord, Ohio, four grandchildren: Greg (Rev. Laurie Clark) Moody of Columbus, Ohio, Diane Moody of West Lafayette, Indiana, Robin (Todd) McClay of Fredericktown and Bart (Bethany) Moody of Fredericktown, seven great grandchildren: Micah Moody, Ben McClay, Holly McClay, Kailyn Moody, Jeffrey Moody, Evan Moody and Caiden Moody, a brother Raymond (Pat) Wilson of Zanesville and a sister Shirley (Bob) Irvin of Delaware, Ohio. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews and many caring and thoughtful neighbors. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband John Moody, two brothers Charles Wilson and Downard “Pete” Wilson and two sisters Thelma Leedom and Margaret Danielson.
Friends may call on Sunday from 2 PM until 4 PM and 6 PM until 8 PM at the Snyder Funeral Home in Fredericktown, Ohio. Funeral services will be held at the Fredericktown United Methodist Church on Monday at 10:30 AM. The Reverend Keith Bohley will officiate. The committal service and burial will be held at the Reber Hill Cemetery in Ashville at 3:30 PM.
