Velma Julia Askew, 87, of Delaware, passed away peacefully Sunday afternoon September 14, 2014 at her son’s residence in Delaware, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born February 3, 1927 in Delaware to Kensey Freeman Hartley and Lessie Elizabeth (Hudson) Hartley.
She enjoyed watching baseball and listening to 50’s and 60’s “Rockin Robin” music. She also enjoyed playing the guitar, dancing with her grandchildren and being surrounded by her loving family.
Left to cherish her memory are sons Bruce (Diane) Askew of Lawrenceville, Georgia, Michael (Kathy) Askew of Delaware and Kenneth (Diane) Askew of Kingston, Ohio; daughter Darlene “Dolly” (Tom) Farahay of Delaware; nine grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Earl Lee Askew in 1983, two brothers Bud and Tom Hartley and a sister Ginny.
Graveside services will be held on Wednesday September 17th at 1:30 pm at Fairview Memorial Park Cemetery, Delaware.

  • I send my prayers and thoughts during this time of loss. Grandma Askew was like a grandma to me and I have wonderful memories of her that I cherish for the rest of my like. Knowing that she is now with the lord and with all her lost loved ones, makes this time of grief much more comforting.
